BTW the music is a mixture of electronic keyboards and Balinese orchestra. Very nice. From around 1979 or thereabouts. To Music-Lovers everywhere, concerning the further sonic adventures of one John Massari - who is a lookalike for his hero-figure Frank Zappa, along with sharing a kindred spirit, idealism, moustache, and nose. To wit: JOHN MASSARI, who co-starred as a Musical Genius (against his protests, and under the pseudonym of "Steve Shostakovich") in the critically-rave-reviewed action-comedy-adventure-special- effects-laden fantasy and satire-on-Hollywood-and-the-System feature film , "The Wizard of Speed and Time" - and who contributed much of the movie's music score - will once again grace the airwaves of the entire North American Continent with his most recent work, in: "SCARED SILENT - Exposing and Ending Child Abuse" - Hosted by Oprah Winfrey - A nation-wide simulcast Television Premiere, airing this Friday, September 4, 1992, 10pm (9pm central), on CBS, NBC, _and_ PBS - with an encore presentation on ABC, Sunday, September 6, 1992, 10pm (9pm central)! This is the first primetime non-news show ever to be aired by three broadcast networks simultaneously! John Massari composed all music for this TV special John Massari conducted all music for this TV special John Massari produced all music for this TV special John Massari performed all music for this TV special* John is very happy with all music for this TV special * with special thanks to John's friends, pianist Neil Posner and recording engineer Avi Hochberg. Any immodesty in the above is due to the immense pride of this note-poster. John is the Prince of Humility :] [Note 1: the show's Executive Producer and Writer, Arnold Shapiro, is _not_ connected with Shapiro-Glickenhaus Ent - the corp >:p that is currently misdistributing our film, and doing so without my authorization] [Note 2: info appreciated on Mr Z's mailing address, so I can send him a free VHS of the movie he almost invested in - and sagaciously did not] [Note 3: 200 pardons if this is the wrong Newsgroup - I'm new to the Net, just tapping all these keys & hoping for the best] Views/News/Blames/Flames: ________________________________________ ___._`.*.'_._ ________ Mike Jittlov - Wizard, etc . . + * .o o.* `.`. +. Band members include two from Lights In A Fat City (steven, didgeridoo, guitar, percussion, and kenneth, flutes, reeds, electronics), one from Club Foot Orchestra (beth, clarinets), and a fabulous multi- percussionist name of john (can't remember his credentials). The music they're making is a lot like Lights in a Fat City, mixing folk instruments of many cultures in compositions that range from chaotic free improv to highly structured and rhythmically complex works. The first show on their tour (Vancouver) went on without a single rehearsal due to problems with band members coming up from the states, so if they sounded good that night, I imagine they'll really be cooking by the time they reach Oregon. Anyway, that's the blurb. They play Seattle, Portland, Eugene, and 3 dates in the SF Bay area through mid/late August. -- Steven M. I don't believe they have any other recordings. Matt rogalsky@sfu.ca ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Aug 1992 12:42:58 PDT From: "Matthew Rogalsky" Subject: Virgins of the Sun (NOT) Well, I embarrassed myself last week by referring to group TRANCE MISSION as VIRGINS OF THE SUN. I plead innocence because the poster for their Vancouver gig said nothing of "Trance Mission," just "Virgins of the Sun: Five Degrees of Fire." I did see the name on their cassette but assumed that was the name of the cassette, not the band. This message is just by way of clearing my good name... and remember, a rose by any other name, etc. Matt rogalsky@sfu.ca ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Aug 1992 15:44:41 +0200 From: Michel Debar Subject: Wendy Carlos CDs Could someone send me the exact reference for the CDs of Wendy Carlos, especially "Beauty in the Beast", "Carnival of the animals - part 2", the original "Switched on Bach", "Brandenburg concertos".
