In depth comparisons of software products, good info on shareware too. Written by a composer who has truly discovered the power of computers in various music tasks. Highly recommend folks check it out. Even if you disagree with some of his editorial positions it is a wealth of information. I agree. This book is extremely valuable for those beginning to use the Mac for sound and music. It is, in fact, not that new. I saw it on the shelf last December which, as we all know, is not a long time in the tech world. > In depth comparisons of software products, good info on > shareware too. It was great to browse through to figure out the difference between companies' products and especially the differences between one companies OWN products! (That's bad enough!) > > Highly recommend folks check it out. Too bad these things go out of date about as fast as they get into the bookstore. --- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Jason D. Sounds heavy. I would be surprised if it covers software interfacing issues (MIDI Manager, OMS, etc.). Does it? Does it? actually, Nick, it does. Not a reprint of the OMS manual or the DevNotes for MM, but a good conceptual overview with experianced commentary. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Mar 1993 07:44:18 +0000 From: Nick Rothwell Subject: Re: BIble of Music and Sound >actually, Nick, it does. >Not a reprint of the OMS manual or the DevNotes for MM, but a good >conceptual overview with experianced commentary. Good. Nice to see that this author does recognise that system integration, and the common system "substrate" of a software-based MIDI rig, is (well, IMHO) as important as any of the features of the components... If you (or anybody else in this group) happens to know a mail.order adress or the ISBN, I would be glad to know (and maybe some others in the group as well).
