Sine waves are fine. In the mean time, I've downloaded MidiEx Mac and would like to use it for the time being. I'm new to MIDI, but have *no experience in using the Mac to store MIDI data. Can you guys and gals with the knowledge tell me about using MidiEx Mac and possibly give some advice on a good universal ed/lib for the Mac. I'm a guitarist, so right now I'm just looking for an ed/lib that will support my DX and TG. BTW, my Mac is running System 7.0.1. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! ********************************************* Doug Ramsay Communication Satellite Programs ramsayd@smtp-gw.spawar.navy.mil ********************************************* P.S. If any of you know of some good reference material on the basics of using SYSEX, I'd appreciate some feedback. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1993 07:48:19 +0000 From: Nick Rothwell Subject: Re: MidiEx Mac This isn't really EMUSIC-L stuff, but: >In the mean time, >I've downloaded MidiEx Mac and would like to use it for the time being. Good luck. It's a totally brainless bulk transfer utility. It doesn't use MIDI Manager, OMS or anything like that and won't work with multicable or fast interfaces and won't work on PowerBooks. Re: good universal librarians. I'd check out Galaxy. I'm using MOTU's Unisyn right now, but it's still pretty rough around the edges and the MIDI system integration is pretty well non-existent. Has anyone used MOTU's Mosaic. I also hear that Opcode has a product in development (or maybe it has shipped, I don't know). Also, Coda is coming out with version 3.0 in the near future, does anybody know when? I am a Finale user and am wondering if I should switch. I would suggest that you don't, certainly if you're working on commercial software. MIDI Manager and/or OMS compatibility is a must. Programs which attempt to talk to the hardware are immediately banished from my machines (apart from anything else, they wouldn't work) and a commercial product without MM or OMS interfacing would be sent back for a refund. MIDI Manager documentation from APDA. OMS documentation from Opcode, hopefully soon (I'm waiting for mine). You'll find this a lot easier and neater than hardware hacking, as well. Multimedia as it seems now is just an excuse to sell a computer. For more info on the possible social effects on society, read "Amusing ourselves to Death" by Neil Postman. This book focuses more on television and the change of public discourse over the past century. However, much of the information moves over into the realm of multimedia as well. I've never understood why American business presentations have music. It irritates the hell out of me.
