Organization: Eindhoven University of Technology I'm busy developping a software synthesizer on a msdos pc. It generates 8 and 16 bit samples of the created synth-sounds. I've got some ideas about how to build up the sounds. I combine several sinus waves, and use some fourier and interplolation techniques on sampled sounds. With these techniques I trie to create the synthetic sounds. But, I still could use some (a lot in fact) information about sound synthesis, since finding everything out myself would probably take a very long time. So if you got some information about how to create synthetic sounds, or know some books dealing with this subject, please let me know. Thanx in advance........ (it rhymes........ oh, it doesn't..... sorry!) Jakko van Hunen mail me : jhu@bdklan1.tue.nl or was it jhu@bdk.tue.nl ? sorry, I'm not sure about that one......... just guess, and hope you picked the right one...... and if you picked the wrong one....... then it's got to be the other one........ hmmm.... that makes sence ...... doesn't it ? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Mar 1993 16:25:17 EST From: Alex Gottschalk Subject: Help with samples. I've used SoundEdit on my roommate's Mac IIsi to compile several long (2-10 second) samples. Now I need a way to be able to layer and loop them to creat a new piece on music. Can anyone give me some suggestions/help? The back of the mag gives a large list of manufacturers of sounds/software for various synths & sound modules. I believe that'll get you started. Hi, I recently bought a used common QuadraVerb with its user's manual. But after a few manipulation, I noticed things that do not appear in the manual. Three new configurations: New config Parameters ---------- ---------- RING>DL>REVERB Spectrum Shift RESONATOR>DL>REV mode, decay, resonator[1-5]tune SAMPLING playback, start, length, audio trigger, midi trigger, midi trigger low/base/high I suppose that it's due to an upgrade. The shop where I bought this from wasn't aware of this, and they sold it to me for a common QuadraVerb. Does anybody know where the hell does it come from and what is the meaning of each parameter ? The RESONATOR config seams to give great effects to computerize a human voice. But I didn't find out what the RING config does, neither the SAMPLING config (small integrated sampler ?)... HI DAVE, LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE THE PROUD OWNER OF A QUADRAVERB + THIS IS THE LATEST SPEC QUADRAVERB WHICH HAS A PROM UPGRADE WHICH GIVES THE NEW PATCHS. BY THE WAY THIS UPGRADE IS AVAILABLE FROM ALESIS FOR ABOUT TEN POUNDS STERLING FOR ANY OLD SPEC QUADRAVERB. THE SAMPLER GIVES YOU A HUGE 1 SECOND SAMPLE TIME AND SAMPLES CAN BE LOOPED AND TRIGGERED BY AUDIO,MIDI OR MANUALLY USING I THINK THE BYPASS BUTTON. THERE SHOULD BE AN EXTRA MANUAL WITH THE UPGRADE WHICH GOES INTO EVERYTHING.THIS YOU COULD GET FROM ALESIS OR YOUR LOCAL GOOD MUSIC SHOP. COME TO THINK ABOUT IT THERE IS EVEN A QUADRAVERB VIDEO WHICH INCLUDES THE "PLUS". HAVE FUN! My personal experience is that the VFX is really quite nice to program. I had no trouble producing patches very close to what I heard in my mind's ear. The worst problem I have is remembering which one of the three envelopes controls which part of the sound by default. The numbering was chosen because the envelopes can be rereouted to other destinations, but I do wish that they had chosen to call them something more like ENV-O, ENV-F, and ENV-A (for oscillator, filter, and amplifier) for the mnemonic value this would have for the default assignments. I like it. Lots. :-) --- Joe M. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Mar 1993 00:31:30 -0600 From: kruse joel Subject: Yamaha SY77 problem Help! My roommate and I have been working on a project for an audio production class compilation album and have run into a problem with the Yamaha SY77 keyboard. We are reading a MIDI sync track off of the multitrack with a Roland MC-500 sequencer. The MIDI clock is sent from the MC-500 to control the SY77's sequencer where the song is stored. The MC-500 is only being used to read the sync track from the tape, none of the song information is stored on it. Here is the problem: the SY77 seems to have a sort of erratic response when being controlled by the MC-500. The SY77 is basically in time, but there are some parts that lag and then catch up. The sequence works great when not controlled by the MC-500. We also tried to use the Ensoniq ESQ 1 as a sub- stitute for the MC-500 and had the exact same problem. Has anyone had similar experiences with externally controlled Yamaha SY series sequencers? This one has us baffled!
