I remember Fairlight had something like it in the early 80's Any info would be greatly appreciated... Jim Driggers ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1993 13:52:31 CDT From: "Kevan L. I remember Fairlight had something like it in the early /80's /Any info would be greatly appreciated.../ / / Jim Driggers digitech has such a device. all it does is pitch-to-midi, though. Digitech's VOCALIST (and VOCALIST II) obviously can recognize pitch since it generates different harmonies based on which pitch is recognized. it has no midi-out of the note recognized, however. it bugs me that they don't have this option. it would be so simple to transmit key-down & velocity information (velocity proportional to input signal strength once pitch is recognized) of the input signal. key-up info is sent when pitch changes. the harmonies could also be transmitted as key-down (once input signal is locked) and velocity (constant, as set by balance levels internal to the machine). maybe even the harmonies transmitted on a different channel. hence, a single saxophone/flute/vocal could control a sampler doing electric guitar lead and 4-part orchestra pad SIMULTANEOUSLY. i'm an electrical engineer in Huntsville, AL, USA and have written digitech offering my services FOR FREE to upgrade their software AND hardware design to include midi-out with the functionality described above. it would be the most useful musical electronic tool since the synthesizer. no reply. sorry about all that; it just makes me mad when you've got a ferarri and you're using it as a paperweight, when all it needs is wheels and you've got an intense toy. klm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1993 14:52:35 CDT From: "Michael D. What were they thinking? Planned obsolescence, no doubt. Perhaps with your talents a retro-fit could be devised. My guess is that IVL Technologies designed that midi-out feature and Digitech nixed its implementation. When I talked to Digitech, they didn't seem to have it together. I hope some other outfit will pick up the ball.
