Moore" Subject: 88-key weighted keyboards Anyone out there got any advice on which 88-key weighted midi controllers are good; are too cheap; feel good; don't have enough features; weigh too much; cost too much; wear out too quick; etc.? i intend to purchase one in the next couple of weeks and the only ones i have seen are the Fatar Studio 90 which, i heard, suffers from keys that can't take pounding -- they bend over time; and the KX-88 which i remember not liking the feel of it (6 years ago; has it changed?). any happy owners? i'm planning to be computer-based with a midi merger, so i don't necessarily need a controller with the ability to send program changes on any channel or slide controllers; but if they're available, why not? anyone? anyone? klm ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jun 1993 09:33:12 CDT From: Mike Subject: Re: 88-key weighted keyboards Have you tried looking at either Roland's A-80 or Peavey's DPM C-8 ? I have a C-8... It's not too ideal if you plan on carrying it around. It's rather heavy (70? lbs...) But i love the feel an so does my wife. I plan to write Casio for a copy of the operation manual, which I lack. I work in a library and can access a collection of back issues for all manner of magazines. Thanx a trillion in advance! Hi, I purchased an apparently old PCM rythm box, called CASIO RZ-1, for a little money. It's big, and sounds like an old box, but it's very useful in some way. Volume of each instrument can be controlled with a linear cursor, and you can record four sampled instruments. It seems that it has a few MIDI capabilities, but I don't know if it accepts sysex or all this kind of sophisticated stuff. Does anybody have the user's manual of this prehistorical thing, and want to send me a copy by fax or mail ? Or do you have at least anything to say about it ? I must also admit that it's quite easy and natural to program. David. --- David Haubensack e-mail: hbsk@hostsit.cad.cea.fr C.E.A. Is there such program? it is my impression after quickly skimming the psr-500 manual that the psr-500 doesn't output everything from its keyboard in every mode. i.e. the bass notes that the auto-rhythm section generates aren't transmitted. also the auto-harmony notes in the right hand aren't transmitted. it would really be bad to play something great only to find out that only half of the notes you heard actually were sent out the MIDI OUT to a sequencer. before you get any sequencer, Humberto, be sure that the instrument will actually transmit everything you think it does. i may be wrong; i only skimmed the manual. is anyone familiar enough with the psr-500 to confirm or refute what all is actually transmitted and received in all modes? i'm dying to know. i've been thinking about getting one for about 9 months now. i also am in the market for PC-based sequencing software. does anyone know if cakewalk can print sheet music on a laser printer? does anyone know if any other software can print sheet music from cakewalk files? thanks, and i'll be sure to refrain from offering my opinion on EVERYTHING. klm ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jun 1993 18:07:30 -0400 From: Joe McMahon Subject: Re: psr-500 midi transmission limits >thanks, and i'll be sure to refrain from offering my opinion on EVERYTHING. Hi Kevan! You're right! Reading carefully the manual, I found a note about MIDI transmition (for psr500): "Style, custom style, demo, multi-pad, notes added by the auto harmony funcion, and song memory playback are not transmitted". However, it's possible to store the pieces that can be handled by PSR-500 memory. This is because psr-500 has a function that allows to dump the contents of each page memory: "The contents of each PAGE MEMORY can be bulk dumped via MIDI out connector as a system exclusive message". So, PSR-500 doesn't transmit all. But it looks to receive fine! So, my idea is to use a PC-based sequencer program to create a music and to use the psr-500 to output it! I'll check out the cakewalk program to see what it can do! Thanks! Humberto. -- +------------------------------------------+----------------------------------+ !
