Please, apologize me if my questions are FAQ (I did not find a FAQ for this group)! (1) Could someone point me a good introduction for the MIDI format (books, reviews, etc)? (2) Is there some MIDI introduction material available by ano- nymous FTP? (3) I'm thinking about to buy a MIDI recorder. Could someone point me a good (and sheap) product? (4) What do I need to put my PC computer talking with a key- board (this keyboard has MIDI)? Thank you very much in advance! There really aren't any, thought I keep begging people to write them on anything they feel like... > (1) Could someone point me a good introduction for the MIDI >format (books, reviews, etc)? > > (2) Is there some MIDI introduction material available by ano- >nymous FTP? > There is a MIDI primer available via anonymous FTP from castrovalva.gsfc.nasa.gov (128.183.33.197) in EMUSIC-L/MIDI-doc/MIDI-Primer. > (3) I'm thinking about to buy a MIDI recorder. Could someone >point me a good (and sheap) product? > It depends on what you're looking for. I see (from your next question) that you have an IBM PC. "Good" and "cheap" are relative terms, and usually mutually exclusive. We'd need more information as to what kind of music you'd like to be doing before we could make a recommendation. The two packages I'm familiar with (as in, "I've heard of them") are Cakewalk and Sequencer+. > (4) What do I need to put my PC computer talking with a key- >board (this keyboard has MIDI)? > You'll need a MIDI interface - I've heard a number of people recommend the Music Quest one; it's not very expensive and has a small sequencer which comes with it. I believe that the newer versions of the SoundBlaster now support a two-way MIDI connection; the early versions supported either input or output, but not both. --- Joe M. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jun 1993 03:00:00 LCL From: Humberto Jose Bortolossi Subject: MIDI I tried to mail this message to Joe MacMahon but my system doesn't recognize his address so I'm posting to the list. Please, apologi- ze-me. To: xrjdm@twinpeaks.gsfc.nasa.com (Joe MacMahon) => There is a MIDI primer available via anonymous FTP from => castrovalva.gsfc.nasa.gov (128.183.33.197) in => EMUSIC-L/MIDI-doc/MIDI-Primer. I thank your suggestion! => It depends on what you're looking for. I see (from your next question) that => you have an IBM PC. The two => packages I'm familiar with (as in, "I've heard of them") are Cakewalk and => Sequencer+. Ok! Well, I have an Yamaha PSR-500 and my first idea is to use something to store what I create with it (unfortunately PSR-500 has no a floppy disk unit)! Since PSR-500 has no good edit functions too I am thiking about a program to write music and thus use it to play. Is there such program?
