Does anyone out there in net land know the MIDI code to trigger a bulk dump on Yamaha synths, specifically, the PSS-680 (old cheapo "portasynth"). I would *presume* that the sysex code would be the same as other Yamaha's, just the device # would change. (But then, I've often been horribly wrong.) Could someone mail/post the code or give me a pointer to someone who might know? Thanks, - Mike ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1993 09:40:30 EDT From: ronin Subject: Re: Question: Bulk Dump code for Yamaha synths... my sysex manual doesn't give any info specific to that machine. frankly, i would be surprised if any of the portasynth class of instruments actually is capable of bulk dump. they were really just meant to be quicky-plug-em-in-n-go type boxes, with minimal (if any) programming ability. there would be little point in dumping from such a device. -----------< Cognitive Dissonance is a 20th Century Art Form >----------- Eric Harnden (Ronin) or The American University Physics Dept. 4400 Mass. All auto-acompaniments were played on MIDI out, on 5 or 6 separate channels: bass, chord notes, "orchestra" notes and drums. Even the demo played out fine. This beast even issued MIDI clock events, so before giving the machine, I actually recorded all the 100 preprogrammed rhythm+accompa- niment patterns to Cakewalk. It had only 12 notes of polyphony, but was 16 part multi- timbral, with the ability to disable reception on selected channels. It could accept several different kinds of dumps and could perform a complete dump from the front panel too, and probably other dumps on MIDI request too (it could not dump its presets directly, only user patches, but you could copy the preset to a user patch first). Sysex docs took 4 manual pages. The only thing which sucked is that it was entirely based on 2-op FM (about 8 user-defined parameters), except for drums, which were sampled. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1993 14:51:08 EDT From: ronin Subject: Re: Question: Bulk Dump code for Yamaha synths... amazing. how old (new) is this machine, anyway? i'm feeling like a fogey. -----------< Cognitive Dissonance is a 20th Century Art Form >----------- Eric Harnden (Ronin) or The American University Physics Dept. 4400 Mass.
