We already use a Panasonic SV-3700 that we've been quite pleased with. We're looking for a comparable machine. Any input would be appreciated. Also, I've heard that there may be some incompatibility with tapes made from different machines. Has anybody else heard anything about this? Thanks, Bob Cleary ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 1993 15:10:26 -0500 From: Dean Keith Subject: DAT machines >Our university is looking into buying a DAT machine. The incompatability you speak of is a head allignment problem. Apparently some machiens have the heads at a slightly different pitch or position. Virtually all tape machiens have this problem to some degree, but it is espicially noticible on digital formats simply because it's eighter there, or not. You've probably noticed this effect the most on low-end cassette recorders. You may record over a tape that was originally recorded on a different machien, and it won't erase all of the previous recording, etc. etc. My recomendation is to get another Panasonic if possible. If not, I've heard good things about the (professional) Sony machiens too. Also, I would like to point out that I have never personally seen the above problem occer, so I consider it to be rare. I have only read about the problem. ______________________________________________________________________________ Dean Keith dkeith@tarleton.edu Tarleton State University Stephenville, Texas, USA ______________________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 1993 18:25:00 EDT From: John Rossi III Subject: Re: DAT machines A Tascam DA-30 would compliment the Panasonic nicely, and is cheap these days.
