I have a sampler (Roland S-550) that has tones, i.e. samples of 0.4 seconds (or interger multiples thereof). I sampled a drum machine and made a bunch of tones, one for each drum machine sound. This wasted a lot of sample memory as most sounds didn't require a full 0.4 seconds. So I trimmed off the silence in the tones and concatenated them into one big tone of 0.8 seconds. I played this tone and heard each original sample in rapid succession. Is that the idea of a wave sequence? If I concatenate the looped portion of tones for five different instrument samples at the same pitch and set my sample loop to include them all, will that work as a wave sequence? I imagine that it would be a single pitch that moves through five timbres. How am I doing? Those of you out there who have made wave sequences, would it be possible for you to describe them; their sound and/or construction? If you play up and down the scale from where you started, your loop will not only change pitch, but it will speed up and slow down as the samples are played back faster/slower. On a Wavestation, a wave sequence has not only a specific sample for each step, but also a specific time duration built into each step that does not vary with pitch. So a wave sequence stays in the same rhythm, regardless of what key you play. It seems to me that if you were to set the samples to be "no pitch change" (I know the EPS can do that, but haven't used it and don't remember how) you could get the wavesequence effect without the speed up/slow down problem. But then, of course, you lose pitch control... Resampling and hours of "fiddly work" retuning and retrying and resampling and repeating 'til satisfied might do it, but... I spent some time programming wave sequences on the WS and then sampling and looping them, and usually using open fifths and octaves. It's actually rather interesting, especially the way the sampler sometimes aliases and changes the quality of the samples. Nik sez check it out.
