I don't care what it costs, I want to know if anything is better then CakeWalk Professional for pure sequencing. I have Encore 3.0 and it's fine, so I don't care about notation, but POWER, POWER, POWER is what I'm looking for. And a company that will stand behind its product. I work in Technical Support for PROCOMM PLUS, so I know how a company should stand behind its product. Thank again for your advice. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - J. I can't get my D50 (via an MPU-401) to play its patches through cakewalk. I can play the Soundblaster's patches using the D50 keyboard. Do I need to do something with the MIDI Mapper driver? Do I need to set up the MIDI Devices in a certain order? I'm lost. Take your pick.] In the sense that "everything else is total crap in every way compared to this product", that is, for those who miss the cultural referent. Speaking as a dumb Mac user :-), I've seen a demo of Cakewalk under DOS and it looked remrkably usable. The gentleman demoing it was very familiar with it, of course, but it looked simple enough to use and did the job OK. As far as support, I can't tell you, although I heard no complaints from several other people who were at the demo who were also Cakewalk users. --- Joe M. ----------------------------------------- "It's delightfully stupid." - N. Come by the shop and we can hook up on it. I also have Trax and Mastertrax and Powertracks in my PC so you can have a go at it. I am enjoying the discussion on this list. Have been reading along for about 2 weeks now. I don't have the problems that I see others having. I do not have a soundcard at all. I have about 16 music programs in my PC for demonstration. I load and go. My setup is a MusicQuest 16S (MPU401) interface, a Roland A30 midi keyboard controller, a Yamaha YME8 Midi Expander, a Roland MT32, Roland SC55, Roland P55 piano module, a Yamaha TG300 Tone generator on a serial port(so I can demonstrate it). I use DOS and Windows software. I have an 8 channel board for the audio and a real good set of speakers. Will enjoy conversation with others on the list. Diane Y. Hennessy Hennessy Music 1729 W. As is the case with Diane H., I use no soundcard, but a MQ32S interface running a Roland U20, Boss DS330, Korg DW6000, and Korg Poly800. (BTW, the two Korgs are for sale for slightly more than a song - private e-mail for details - sorry Joe M.) I just recieved the upgrade from TwelveTone to ver 2.01, so far so good. I'm glad they brought back punch-in recording! CW is very user-friendly and the learning curve is very short. This may not be the correct list, but I'll give it a go. I want to get into digital multi-tracking, but haven't decided if I want to go direct to HD or get a Tascam, Fostex, or Alesis ADAT. I have a 486sx with a 200mb HD. I figure that if I want to do any serious HD recording, I'll need a larger one. It seems one of the multitrack DAT recorders would give me the same results, and I could still use it if my computer should happen to crash (yaaaaaaaaaaaa). I'd be interested to hear other opinions. Thanks in advance. Happy Tax Day. We're drying out here. Heavy duty T-Storms with Tornadoes rolled through last night. But that's normal for Missouri. Have been reading all notes with interest for a couple of weeks now...so maybe it's my turn to 'have a go'! I have just 'connected' up a new music quest note 1 interface with Cakewalk Pro. The SY77 is at the front (computer/Pro in the middle) and a Yammy TG500 providing the sounds.I'm currently just using the 77 to drive the sounds of the TG. Up until now, if I needed to play different different sounds/parts of a patch on the TG .. I would just select the appropriate channel on the 77.(With only 15 memory locations for patches on the TG, presumably I'm going to run our very quickly..) Now (!) with the Laptop/C. Pro in the middle, changing the channel on the 77 has no effect...can anyone advise what I need to do?..! Second question - can someone give a simple guide to mapping. The next "major" problem would appear to be (having loaded midi file) how to get Cakewalk to play the voices (within a patch) ... or get Cakewalk to select a patch on the TG. I have to add, my knowledge is very limited at the moment regarding mapping. So...I'm not sure whether I have to use 'mapping' or a simpler alternative! ta in advance!.....b, ------------------------------ End of the EMUSIC-L Digest ******************************
