Being an intermediate audio technician, I know enough to get into trouble, and basically a "newbie" to the electronic music arena, I would like to ask a few questions, some technical and others not. First, I subscribed to Electronic Music, or was it Musician, through one of the local schools doing a fund raiser. Needless to say I have not got the foggiest way of contacting the magazine to find out if they received my subscription. Therefore, can anyone help me? Secondly, I was wondering if there were any other magazines that would prove to be beneficial to me especially in the regards to sound reinforcement and recording. During a sound reinforcement seminar it was told to me that there were a few free magazines that would be beneficial (is this true or was the speaker just pulling my leg?). I figure that the more magazines me and my church staff can read, the better off we will be when it comes to upgrading our existing equipment. Thirdly, the pastor of our church would like to produce a tape that could be given to our first time visitors. The most recent attempt to do this with our existing equipment amplified the background noise upon duplicating. We tried to use Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction but it seamed to take too much out of the recording. Therefore, I was thinking of purchasing equipment so that preexisting recordings could be transferred to a pc, have the signal cleaned and enhanced, and then placed onto a master. Is this feasible? If it is what type of equipment and software would we need. If there are other ideas out there, we will look at all avenues to produce better music and tapes. Below you will find the main components of our recording efforts minus the vocals and unreinforced instruments: Console: EV Entertainer 100 Series - 10 channel powered mixer Recorders: Aiwa Single deck HX Pro Series cassette recorder Sharp Dual Deck cassette recorder Keyboard: Ensoniq ? series - has midi in, out, and thru but currently none of us have a clue on how to use the midi ports or why they're there, see why we need to read more and ask questions? The church owns and has access to some DOS computers, 286-12 for the most part, with my personal computer being the 286 with the largest drives, IDE 212 MB and 45 Mb drives. If you would like send all answers to me personally and I will submit an outline of the data received, including solicitations, and post it for everyone. Don't worry the solicitations will only be provided to those that ask. Thank you for your help. [lotsa stuff deleted] Read MIX magazine for sound reinforcement tips. Read Keybord for tips on MIDI and such. I suggest purchasing a basic "How To" type book over MIDI or the Keyboard articles may be above your head. Also buy a Sound Reinforcement reference book. It'll help you understand your equipnent better. ______________________________________________________________________________ Dean Keith dkeith@tarleton.edu Tarleton State University Stephenville, Texas, USA ______________________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Apr 1994 08:33:30 -0600 From: Doug Merrill Subject: Audio Tech Seaking HELP! -Reply For Don MC RE: Electronic Musician magazine.
