Do they give just the most simplest of backing tracks, or is this where the user-defined styles comes into play? I would appreciate any comments on the above - as I am both considering buying such a system, and commenting in the evolution of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Algorithmic based Computer-Music systems in my final year project. Thanks in advance for any information, Ian cs90ijs@brunel.ac.uk ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 May 1994 21:37:56 EDT From: Chris Anthes Subject: Re: Band in a Box I own and use 'Band-in-a-box' and I believe it is the greatest music learning tool since the Jamey Aebersold series. The Aebersold records still have a better feel because they are actual real human musicians, but Band-in-a-box still creates *very* "human" arrangements and has many advantages including the ability to change tempo, key, and style very easily. It also covers many more styles (from Polka to Jazz to Country to Hip-Hop) than the Aebersold series and since *you* program in the chord changes, you don't need a whole new program (album) for every tune. Any song you have the changes for can be entered in and jammed to. I think that it is not only a great practice tool, but is a lot of fun and well worth the 50 or so bux they are charging for it now. I've even used it on occasion to sequence and record some quick on-the-fly accompaniment for performance. I suggest getting the BIAB Pro version with the extra style disks. Some of them are a real kick (Ska and Milly Pop, for example). I think Band-in-a-box is a great (and extremely fun) product and I recommend it highly. Convert it to a mid file and edit it in your sequencer program of choice. I am currently waiting for a program called Music Station. It is apparently similar to BB but has many more features, including taking a few bars of music (I believe in MIDI format) and creating a style from them to use in other songs. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 May 1994 16:09:17 -0700 From: Doug Wellington Subject: Re: 'Band in a Box' >I have Band in a Box and it makes a great template. Why wait, when you can have Jammer now? I use both Band-in-a-Box and Jammer. While BiaB is great for programming in quickie chord changes and picking a style to practice along with, Jammer is much better at creating new and interesting lines from scratch. Jammer allows something like 250 different tracks, where BiaB only does five, plus a melody. Check Jammer out. -Doug ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 May 1994 10:33:58 CEST From: Maurizio Margani Subject: Band In A Box does anybody know where to buy (address and/or phone no.) Hello, Does anyone out there use the Band-in-a-box type Jammer program for Windows? If so can you create MIDI files with this program? Are there basic and pro versions of Jammer? Where can Jammer be purchased? Is there a Windows demo of Jammer on a FTP site somewhere? Thanks for the help. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 May 1994 11:38:56 +0100 From: Ian J Small Subject: Re: Jammer ? > > Is there a Windows demo of Jammer on a FTP site somewhere? > I got WinJammer from ftp.uwsa.fi in directory /windows/sound file name winjam22.zip. Its a shareware program so details of purchase are included. It also produces MIDI files, and output. Have fun, Ian cs90ijs@brunel.ac.uk P.S. let me know how you get on ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 May 1994 10:49:24 CST From: Darwin Grosse Subject: Re(2): Jammer >> >> Is there a Windows demo of Jammer on a FTP site somewhere? >> >I got WinJammer from ftp.uwsa.fi in directory /windows/sound >file name winjam22.zip. Jammer : Commercial sequencer with add-on "players" that will accompany the sequencer via programmed patterns. If you are really looking for Jammer, you are probably looking for the "players" - and you won't find them in WinJammer!
