I concatenated the replies into a single text file (about 27k) with almost no editing. I'd post it to the list, but I don't want to burden anyone with a 27k mailing they aren't interested in. So ... anyone who wants a copy, just send me email with the *exact* subject line: "send text" (no quotes) and _nothing_ in the body of the message. After a few days, I'll send it out. Is this a good way to deal with this? Should I post it if I get a substantial number of replies? How many is substantial?? Thanks to everyone who replied! /Jonathan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 May 1994 15:05:49 +7516517 From: Boselli Massimo Subject: Re: DX7 patch editor/sounds for PC ? > > Hi all, > I've just brought a yamaha DX7 and was wondering > if anyone knew of, or where I can get, a patch editor for > the thing. Does anyone know of a good inexpensive software package (shareware?) that will display lyrics in large letters across a computer screen. I've seen karoke machines do this, but it seems that there should be a pc program capable of doing this. Right now, I'm using Microsoft Powerpoint but, it demands windows and I was wanting to take my old klunker of a 4.7mhz dos pc out on the road instead of my nice 486. Anyone have any tips? I get around with it fine, but the problem I have is this: After a song has been composed and compiled (which does include the option of having checked the composition for timing errors) it begins the play- back. After a few notes have been played a errant note sounds. This errant note is off key and very prominent. And just one time. I have looked through the composition for a note scored but found none. My question for anyone that uses this software is this, has this ever happened to you and what if anything you've done to avoid it. Also if there is anyone who uses MusicPrinter Plus and would like to exchange ideas compositions or other tidbits feel free to answer here or by private e-mail. Thanks for any input. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 May 1994 23:02:01 -0500 From: Siberian Khatru Subject: Re: MusicPrinter Plus Problems I have also been using MPP for quite some time, but I have never run across the problem you seem to be having. I did, however, have a BEAR of a time getting to work with my old FB01 at first. Anyway, if you're including sysex with your compilation, that might mess things up (that's what was screwing things up with my FB01) but otherwise I can't think of any causes for these phantom notes. I have two question to ask other users of MPP: 1. Does it annoy you that you're limited to 64K space for each file? (It annoys me that I have to break things down all the time, and midi-file transcription is almost IMPOSSIBLE) 2. Any hints for trying to do contemporary notational stuff like feathered beaming (and other cool stuff like that)? Jon Southwood, et al; Yes it annoys me to the point of investing in another software to get a program that can do what it says it will do. I have tried to talk to the people at MPP about possible bugs in their code but they emphatically deny any problems with their program. I do not use sysex messages imbedded in the musc as I have never been explained to how this function works, hint, hint, and as far as the conversion of .mp1 to .mid files go this seems to work for some files and not for others. Maybe with a little more experience could enlighten me on this subject also. I truly do like the software and the way you have scored piece of (music) when you are done and am quite sure there are others out there that do the same things and until I sell that one song that gets me my life in paradise I'll keep on Temporal Acuity to improve, improve, improve. YOUNGER" Subject: Notation Software Hi everyone, Does anyone out there know of ANY program in FTP world that can take a MIDI file and print the music as a score? For example, I have a sequencer program (WINJAMMER) and a notation program, but the notation program will not print the music displayed on the screen without going through the elaborate process of capturing the file as a graphic and sorting through it in Corel Draw. So I want something that I can take my scores in their MIDI format and retrieve them in a program to print them. In other words the program doesn't need the ability to play back music, just retrieve it on the screen. Does anyone understand waht i am trying to say? And if so any ideas? Or must i go get something like CAKEWALK or FINALE to do such things? Craig, The best program I know for converting image files of practically any format to practically any other format is called MacLink Plus - I think they're up to version 4.0, but I'm not sure. I used it extensively a few months ago to convert image files from an IBM format to PICT format, worked like a charm. Unfortunately, it's not shareware, so you'd have to purchase it through something like MacWarehouse or your favorite mail order catalog. I haven't found any shareware image converters that actually worked for me when I tried them. Thanks in advance for >all your help and input. -Craig > izzy1ny@mvs.oac.ucla.edu Hi Craig There's a great piece of software called NIH Image which can read many picture formats onto a Mac. It also does noise reduction, colour tables, composite images and a whole heap of image analysis routines if you want, but is pretty simple to use nevertheless. In fact you name it... Once you've got your image, you can cut and paste it into Mac applications like Canvas, Persuasion, Powerpoint etc. It comes with a hefty manual and best of all - it's FREE!! But - a lot depends on the format your pictures are in (TIFF, CGM etc etc). If you're interested, send me details of your picture files (or even a file itself if its not too big) and I'll give you the ftp address etc. Hope this helps Clive Clive McFarland | Phone +612-886-4928 CSIRO | Division of Biomolecular Engineering | FAX: +612-886-4805 PO Box 184 | +612-886-4818 North Ryde NSW 2113 | AUSTRALIA | clive@pelican.dbe.csiro.au ------------------------------ End of the EMUSIC-L Digest ******************************
