There are software editors for it on base of Atari ST or Amiga, but I'm searching for a voice/performance-editor, which works on IBM-compatibles with soundcard-MIDI (Soundblaster o.e.) under DOS or - better - under Windows. Is there anyone, who knows something like that or a 'MIDI-library' for the TX81Z, which will help programming something like that? Of course if I could find one that work in a Windows environment I would be eternally gratefull. I am also using a Roland D-50, Yamaha DX7/FB01, and Korg-Poly 800. Does anyone know where I can find Lib/Editor for those too(windows perferably)? How about patch swapping? Anybody interested? The S01 is a toy (as I keep telling people who seem to get annoyed by my doing so). Alchemy might well talk MIDI-SDS to the S01, but it'll be s l o w. If you can put up with that, fine. I'm a co-owner with Joe McMahon; I helped start the list but only took a share in running it recently. SYNTH-L is a mailing list for dicsussing what we call 'gearhead' stuff; equipment, pricing, tech notes, etc. Its sister list, EMUSIC-L is for discussing the more "cerebral" aspects of electronic music, from form and content to future directions in computers and hardware standards. SYNTH-L is open to price discussions and sale of used gear by list members; EMUSIC-L is not. Neither list is open to advertisements, other than announcements of new music for sale by list members. Both lists are controlled by listserv@american.edu and are subscribed to by sending a one-liner message SUBSCRIBE SYNTH-L Your Name You will get an automatic reply which contains other useful data, like how to request info from the server and how to sign off. Save this for future reference. Then you can post by sending email to synth-l@american.edu. You will not get a copy back of your own mail unless you want it; the sign-on message sheet explains how to set this up. Most folks find the two lists complement each other, but others read only one or the other; EMUSIC-L is especially devoted to academic and professional musicians who don't want to wade through tons of messages about soundcards, and SYNTH-L is well-suited to MIDI jockeys who could care less about Stockhausen or Markov chains as inputs to composition simulators. There are also those who say that EMUSIC-L is full of itself and lacking in meaningful content, but it's nice to have a quiet place to put up one's electronic feet and discuss the relative merits of musique concrete and all-electronic approaches in the French vs. German schism after the War (I like the French material and the German approach; I guess that makes me Belgian? :-P ) >robert moog is god No, Robert Moog is a very funny, witty, hard-driven genius with a penchant for thinking of the right tweat the right time. NextStep (The Next OS) has been available for PCs for quite a while now, but the resource requirements are pretty hefty. It's something like 16megs RAM and 100 HD, more if you want decent preformance. The retail price is also huge (although the only price I know off the top of my head includes development tools, it's $2500). I read that Canon has the rights to the Next hardware, and may be selling the machines in a year or two, but I don't know much other than that. > Also, I've come across the names of two programs -- C Music and C Mix -- > which I think run on PCs. The problem I have with these is that many are quite long, and if I capture them, I must then go delete all the lines of reader commands that interrupt the blocks of midi code every eight lines or so. While this is doable, it is a real pain in the butt. I can't believe that all the binaries floating around on the Usenet are intended for such manual procedures, especially as some get up into the 100K range. Any suggestions on how to address this problem will be greatly appreciated.
