Sysex is just a text file - you should be able to dump it with a standard sysex program, like...Sysex Dump! If you're on a Mac, I myself have this shareware and could get it to you - PC, someone else will have to help. Otherwise, I'm not aware that Sysex has a standard format called .syx - sounds like just something to put an extension on a DOS file so it can have an extension. I'm programming a little bit in Windows, (visual basic) and would like to do some stuff for MIDI and audio. I have no idea how is the midi-data-stream controlled. The same thing with .wav samples. I hope to write an application capable of loading samples to memory, assigning them MIDI channels setting parameters like pitch, key range etc. Than PC could act as an additional sound source (like a sampler). I would like the samples to be controlled by either MIDI IN (from another sequencer) or an existing sequencer program on the same PC. Maybe there is something similair existing. If anyone knows sites with shareware programs, modules etc which might have something to do with this subject or did something similair, I would appreciate any info. I remember that once someone mentioned some program which could mix few .WAVs and also play them with no delays. (inserting wav's into music file f.i. in Cakewalk usually resulted in storing the same wav multiple times which is completely insane, also the wav's aren't playbacked correctly because of delays - that's the reason for my whole idea) Jacek L. ========================================================================= Date: Mon, 28 Aug 1995 12:16:57 -0400 Reply-To: Electronic Music Discussion List Sender: Electronic Music Discussion List From: Morgan Smith Subject: Re: PC midi interface > Hi, Does anybody have a schematic for a midi interface to an > IBM compatible? > > Mark If a midi interface is all you want, there are cards on the market that give you only a midi interface (no onboard sounds or effects processing). In-Reply-To: <950829123034_66154955@emout04.mail.aol.com> I just got onto this forum and wanted to tell you about my instruments and experience- I am recently returned from France, where I spent a year playing in the techno scene all around the Montpellier area. I'm telling you, its an analog extravaganza over there. I had the pleasure of playing with a Jupiter 6, Novation Bassstations (an english piece) Tb303s, Tr909s, Roland system 100 modulars, Korg ms 20s, Prophet 5s and many other fine pieces of antiquity. Working in a music store, I also got to play with pieces from Waldorf and a new German firm called QuasiMidi. They've patterned their digital instruments after analog sounds and have done fairly well. I used their Quasar synth for 6 months and found it very good. My current rig includes an ARP 2600, a Moog series 2 Modular, a Juno 106, Fatar masterkeyboard 2001, a novation bassstation, Sequential circuits drumtraks, ARP analog sequencer. Since I left my ASR-10 in France I'm looking for a k2000 RS or another asr-10 rack. Anyone? I also need a midi-CV converter for the arp and the moog. If anyone has any experience with these devices I would appreciate the information. If there is a portable DAT for sale, that would interest me as well. I have LOTS of samples for the Asr-10, ENSONIQ vfx, and many patches for the arp. Exchanging tips and experiences with other modular users would be a greathelp, as I hardly know how to use the Moog series 2. I am looking to discuss with techno artists interested in analog machines and creative sampling- as well as ambient and progressive trance afficionados. - Tim Pasch. ========================================================================= Date: Tue, 29 Aug 1995 15:01:22 -0700 Reply-To: Electronic Music Discussion List Sender: Electronic Music Discussion List From: Spamboy Subject: Quadrasynth Plus I'm about > < this close to buying a Quadrasynth Plus Piano but the guys at Nadine's didn't help me out much. This procedure will not reset the factory patches but will reset all timbres and tones--so you need to save anything you like before you do it, to be able to re-load it later. Hi Tim, Welcome to EMUSIC-L. From your introductory post, I decided that you need to know about Analogue Heaven. It's a list like this one that may fill some of your needs concerning how to use your analog gear and discussing various forms of techno music. The sampling portion of your needs could be explored on SYNTH-L, the companion to this list. To join SYNTH-L, please read the mail that you received from the listserv when you joined EMUSIC-L. To join Analogue Heaven, send mail that says "subscribe analogue your_email_address" to majordomo@hyperreal.com if you want the mail in real time. If you want mail digests once per day, then your message should read "subscribe analogue-digest your_email_address." So, perhaps you, or any other QS+ers out there, would care to respond to this posting. Upon receipt of *my* QS+ (mailordered), I noted distinctly different mechanical noises eminating from about a half-dozen of its keys. I'd read on this list that QS+s were being shipped with damaged keys. So, I considered it "damaged" and have returned it in exchange for another. (It played fine--love the synth!--but these noises were ear-rot-tating!) Anyone else out there with similar problems? Is this just the nature of this fine, individually handcrafted "classic"? Can I expect the same in my next QS+? ========================================================================= Date: Thu, 31 Aug 1995 15:25:34 -0700 Reply-To: Electronic Music Discussion List Sender: Electronic Music Discussion List From: fingers Subject: Re: is the list still up? umm, I got a message from you I am primarily MIDI/sample-oriented now, but I would like to move to film and video sound.
