Hello!

I'm a Computer Science student that would like to invite you to an experiment...

To finish my graduation, I made a Project that consists on composing new
musics from Analysis of older ones. This means that the computer "learns"
the style of the composer and creates new and different musics with that.

The experiment I would like you to do is described on

http://alma.uc.pt:80/~grico/

This experiment is the final stage of the project and I have only 5 days to
receive answers.

So, if you want to help me, please answer briefly.

        Bye!

Can you tell me what style is Haujobb's music?

I am curious because I enjoy Download very much, and one track in one
of their records is remixed by Haujobb -- a splendid work and
reinterpretation.

Haujobb is basically a Electo-Industrial band. They draw most of their
background sounds from different movie sound effect--So far Aliens
(all) have been their favorite movie to use. You might want to check out their
webpage, last time I checked they had sound bites available. Hope this
helps--also, their new disk is great, not really like Download, but some really
great songs and sounds. Hope this helps.

Hello everbody.
I have written to this list to ask for some help. I recall about 3
monthd a go, when I was last on this list, and I remember a very long
discussion on 'Music on the Brain' and I do believe that the discussion
continued after I left the list.

Could the people who actually emailed with comments on that discussion,
if they are still members of EMUSIC-L, please come forward and tell me
their theories on music on the brain. I need a lot of theories or
possible answers to what affect music has on the brain, or how humans
actually determin the difference between music and just a noise, or how
humans can tell the difference between different tunes, or even why
humans enjoy listening to music.

Could someone please reply to this email privately and please try to help
me as quickly as possible. If there are any scientists/biologists on
this list, please could you email me on Andysmoke@dial.pipex.com to help
me?

Regards,

Andrew Whittle, England

Hello again, Andy. I suggest you check out the back issues at
http://sunsite.unc.edu/emusic-l if you don't have the old articles on file. The
soon-to-be-there search engine is not yet ready, so you'll just have to
plow through all of the old mail for the period you're interested in (Sorry.).

You may also be able to find some useful references by consulting with your
local search engine - try "neurobiology music" as a starter.

How precisely are they like (although this is very subjective)? Is
their use of samplers and synthesizers in any way similar to Download's?
What is their aesthetics/imagery (recalling that Download / Skinny
Puppy / Doubting Thomas portray one of Horror, although their electronic
sound may suggest additional themes)?

> Hope this helps.

Sure has. At least enough for me to try to find and buy at least one of
their CD's.

Thanks to all.

beat. ever notice how aggressive people like aggrssive music. and the
opposite is true as well. crazy music - - - crazy people. and so on. that is
a cheezy theory though. more so on a better theory - - - music is
mathematics. your brain works on different mathematical principles,

Hi Mike !

I know the band very well, because the drummer is a good friend of mine !
They come from the city I live in (Bielefeld/Germany). They all ( 3 people)
are going on a tour in Europe !
They offered me to take my demotape and to give it to their manager !
What do you want to know about them ?

You can order them directly from their official web site but they do not
accept credit card orders.

One other way would be to order from Symbiose at

    http://www.puug.pt/symbiose/pages/index.html

which btw is the place where I ordered mine. It may nevertheless not
be of interest to you (or at least not the optimal choice) because it
too is here in Europe. You may check their online catalogue for other
items (they have a great variety of alternative/independent music), but
be warned that it is vastly outdated in comparison to its printed, snail
mailed version.

Best!

I think I heard a Fly quartet once. Horsefly, fruitfly, housefly and mayfly. It
was at a flea circus. I think I've seen a dung beetle ballet, also. And my
three year old definately has had ants dance in his pants.

Anybody else ever try absorbing musical ideas while asleep by
repeatedly playing a CD or record? I actually have tried this (with a grain
of salt). I think it does work, to a degree. Laying subconcious templates
for composing/improvising. Helps one acquire the "essence" of the style
but not any particular detail.
