The Southern Folklife Digital Archive Project
This report outlines the process of designing a prototype web site for the William Ferris Collection, a potentially large digital library of materials on Southern US folklore. We briefly discuss the people and organizations involved in the project; the decisions made in designing and building the prototype; and finally some of the questions that will have to be addressed to successfully create a digital library from these materials. The creation of this digital library will require not only finding technical solutions for the presentation of a large interdisciplinary multimedia collection to a wide audience, but also coordinating the efforts of a diverse set of partners.
