10. Using X Windows from within MS Windows

Linux users forced to use MS Windows on their desktop have a couple of choices to make their lives easier.

The first is the VNC package, which can create a virtual desktop on a Linux server, displayed on a MS Windows (or Linux or any machine that runs Java) client. VNC is very easy to install on both the server and client side. XXX example.

Another alternative is to run X Windows directly on a MS Windows machine. There is now a free version of Cygwin which contains the XFree86 X Windows package. XXX details.
