NAME
pmdasnia - SNIA/NUMA performance metrics domain agent
SYNOPSIS
$PCP_PMDAS_DIR/snia/pmdasnia [-d domain] [-l logfile]
DESCRIPTION
pmdasnia is a Performance Metrics Domain Agent (PMDA)
which exports performance metrics for SGIs SNIA system,
mostly for metrics that are specific to SGI's NUMA archi
tecture. This agent only works on SGI SNIA IA64 hardware,
however no harm will occur if it is installed on other
IA64 systems.
The pmdasnia agent exports various NUMA specific metrics
below hinv in the name space (hinv.nnode, hinv.nrouter,
hinv.nrouterport, hinv.nxbow, hinv.interconnect,
hinv.map.cpu, hinv.map.node, hinv.map.router,
hinv.map.routerport and hinv.map.xbow) and some other SGI
hardware specific metrics (hw.* and origin.*). Note that
not all of these metrics are fully implemented yet. Ker
nel instrumentation work is still in progress for many of
the metrics. Some metrics may never be implemented (e.g.
perhaps origin.numa.migr).
A brief description of the pmdasnia command line options
follows:
-d It is absolutely crucial that the performance metrics
domain number specified here is unique and consis
tent. That is, domain should be different for every
PMDA on the one host, and the same domain number
should be used for the same PMDA on all hosts.
-l By default, a log file named snia.log is written in
the current directory of pmcd(1) when pmdasnia is
started, i.e. $PCP_LOG_DIR/pmcd. If the log file
cannot be created or is not writable, output is writ
ten to the standard error instead.
The -l option specifies an alternative name for the
log file.
INSTALLATION
The pmdasnia agent is auto-installed and configured by a
post-install script when the pcp-snia package is
installed.
FILES
$PCP_PMCDCONF_PATH
command line options used to launch pmdasnia
default help text file for the snia metrics
$PCP_LOG_DIR/pmcd/snia.log
default log file for error messages and other
information from pmdasnia
PCP ENVIRONMENT
Environment variables with the prefix PCP_ are used to
parameterize the file and directory names used by PCP. On
each installation, the file /etc/pcp.conf contains the
local values for these variables. The $PCP_CONF variable
may be used to specify an alternative configuration file,
as described in pcp.conf(4).
