Maintained and assisted in maintenance of 10 Windows NT 4 servers, 3 Red Hat Linux servers, 2 Compaq OpenVMS servers. Also maintained and administered a mix of workgroup laser printers, personal laser printers, and personal ink jet printers. Maintained approximately 250 client workstations owned by the university along with related peripherals, including scanners, zip drives, and digital cameras.

Researched and directed the purchase of 30 notebook computers for the majority of faculty. Created software distribution images and assisted in developing training programs for the faculty receiving said computers.

Network TechnicianOctober 1998 to January 1999

Responsible for technical support and maintenance of client workstations and related peripherals. Installation and configuration of client workstations using Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. Hardware included network, audio, SCSI, and video cards, ZIP drives, CD-ROM drives, hard drives, floppy diskette drives, scanners, digital cameras, and USB devices. Handled telephone support for users attempting to install and configure network interface cards, as well as modems and dial-up software. Wrote instructions for the installation and configuration of network cards, modems, and related software for students, faculty, and staff.

Authored web pages and managed the student newspaper web site using Microsoft Frontpage 98. Advanced programming in Pascal, Administrated a Netware 3.11 network, set up hardware, installed and configured Novell Intranetware 4.11 network. Managed user access, printing, and disk storage facilities for a 60-user network. Began working on mini-computer running UNIX. Configured for Internet capabilities to connect the entire school.

Linux Documentation Project

Documentation Specialist

Assisted in managing the development of a text processing system based on DocBook SGML and XML. Polished tools for converting from legacy SGML formats (LinuxDoc) into DocBook SGML. Worked as a copy editor for the LDP collection. Edited several large documents for content, spelling, and grammar. Helped to get the LDP document collection under a revision control system.

GNOME Documentation Project

Documentation Writer and Markup Specialist

Assisted in editing The GNOME Handbook of Writing Software Documentation. Authored application manuals, and assisted in editing manuals written by other project members. Served as a markup specialist (DocBook SGML and XML), as well as helped project members get validation tools installed. Currently managing the changes in documentation that are required for the next release of GNOME.
