The Pan Pan is a raging full on postmodern multimedia cultural meltdown
wearing the thin disguise of a 24 hour diner. The menu is massive and
covered with advertising and a remarkable array of misspellings and
grammatical errors. The wait staff is largely helpless and suffering from
a staggering diversity of mental ailments, most of which greatly impare
their ability to take orders quickly. The food is usually tolerable,
occasionally good. Prices are okay.
Realistically you shouldn't go to this to get a good meal. Instead choose
a time when your supply of mushrooms runs out and you need a little
surreality in your life, then go at 2 am and ask the waitress how she's
doing. I guarentee you will have a bizarre experience. Possibly quite
terrible, but definitely bizarre.
Props to the Pan^2 for their "North Carolina Scenic Spots" placemats.
Steal a few to use as wall hangings! Also be sure to check out the photos
of, errr, "celebrities" in the lobby and try to recognize a few of them.
You probably won't.
