Garcia Grateful, Now?
It is no secret how much I truly hated the Grateful Dead. Here's a look
back at a show that I put together when the G.D.'s played Raleigh three or
four years ago (It was Silica Gel's, and Repetophile's first performance
ever. The Beatless also played.)
I distributed flyers that said....
"Jerry Garcia Must Die"
"Yea verily, brothers and sisters. We have entered a NEW DECADE. There is
no longer any room in this culture of ours for a country and
western/rhythm and blues/rock and roll mind cult from the sixties(tm). The
past is a runny sore of culture's blunders. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RELIVE IT.
Join us in banishing the Grateful Dead from our culture, our decade, and
our subconscious."
The flyers were taken down as quickly as they were put up. Everyone
thought it was hiliarous. In fact some people thought it was an after show
Deadhead party.
While I have mellowed in my old age, I still hate the Grateful Dead. Jerry
is dead and I foretell a disgusting deification of that furry gob of
tedious guitar playing. I actually kinda wish he had exploded on stage...
What a long dull trip it's been..
