depends on the business. the only thing i'm really picky about is food
(because local restarants are just usually better than chains, for obvoius
reasons) and music. See the aforementioned story, plus the fact that local
music stores are generally better than chains, better service, better
depth of selection (i.e. sure, best buy might have had a lot of cool stuff
when they opened, but how much of that stuff got re-stocked once they sold
the token copy? how many bands just have their latest releases, and maybe
one selling older album, but a virtually non-existent back catalog?)

So yeah, if poindexter's had this amazing nine-record billie holiday box
set i've been wanting for a while, and it cost $50 more there than at
best buy, i'd probably buy it at poindexter's. i generally put my money
where my mouth is. but, if we were talking about a washing machine or
something, i dunno, just because a) i've never shopped for that kind of
thing before and b) i don't know if there's much of a difference between
joe schmoe's whirlpool and best buy. but i'd go look in joe schmoe's
whirlpool first, and if the service was good and i felt i was paying a
reasonable price, i'd probably get something there before i even looked in
best buy.

i don't fuck around with this is what i'm saying. i'm dead serious.
