_i'm_ the one that's fukin glib.
You get in free. you drink free beer. you look at people. you listen to
ironic pop music. This isn't so painful!
Plus you can leave if consensus gets what it wants.
Demand is not created by the consumer.
It is sometimes participated in by the consumer, but it is primarily
created by:
(1) the creation of a perceived demand (advetizing, advertorials,
local "news" "stories," etc.)
(2) the obliteration of competition (usually locally owned) through
buy-outs, political bribery, or flat-out price war in which the chain
outlet temporarily sells things below profit in order to steal the
customers of its neighborhood competitors, and once the latter have been
driven out of business, it brings its prices back up. Having the resources
of a national corporation, it can afford to do this; Mom and Pop can't.
of course, visart is run virtually identically to any big corporate chain,
so it's not really a good example. it's a pretty horrible place to work.
and Monster works rather like a Kinko's, I guess, it's owned by people who
live far away, but gradually, local folk fill its ranks.
knee-jerk reactionism is never a very good policy, in my opinion.
yes but the Consumer is itself a product of the western capitalist
mindset. it is possible to emphasize other aspects of life than material
consumption, such that mere appeals to consumption will appear to be
shallow.
otoh, there is no more deep appeal than to consumption. it is basic, so it
is called base.

i have an article from scientific american, the, which details the
economic theory underlying the why of why we now have a less efficient
method of videotaping for home consumption. why, in short, in theory, vhs

I'm like the typhoid mary of good cheer.

i pulled a string, just now, from sleeve. violence, indeed.
and i loved it, as much as i last night enjoyed kicking the virtual asses
of several friends at tekken2.
if we are not violent, we do not survive.
what, then, if we are not attributive?
