WXDU in 3D at the DRIVE-IN

On Wednesday, October 30th, WXDU-Durham and the Starlite Drive-In
present THE MAZE, a thrilling tale of giant frogs and psychological
intrigue, set in Gothic Scotland. Filmed in glorious black & white
3-D, THE MAZE should prove to be a chilling Halloween experience for
even the most jaded movie-goer. All proceeds will help replace the
WXDU tower, which was destroyed by hurricane Fran. The show begins at
7:30pm sharp, rain or shine; admission is $5. Call 684-2957 for more details.

THE MAZE was directed in 1953 by William Cameron Menzies, who is best
known for his Oscar-award-winning production design in GONE WITH THE
WIND, and for directing the 1950's sci-fi classic, INVADERS FROM MARS.
Richard Carlson stars as the hero who inherits a Scottish maze and a
mysterious little-seen relative who turns out to be a giant frog. Its
last notable screening was at last year's Edinburgh Festival in Scotland
as part of their Milestones in Film Technology Series.

WXDU-DURHAM is Duke University's student- and community-run,
all-volunteer radio station. WXDU programs one of the most diverse
arrays of new music in the Triangle, including jazz, country, blues,
indie rock, industrial, techno, and music from all parts of the world.
Although the station normally broadcasts as far west as Burlington and as
far north as the Virginia state line, XDU's tower was destroyed during
hurricane Fran. A new tower should be up and running by year's end, but
in order to pay for this replacement, WXDU needs community support, and
has been holding a series of fund-raisers, of which THE MAZE is a
part. WXDU-Durham is a part of the Duke University Union, a non-profit
organization.

THE STARLITE DRIVE-IN is the last remaining drive-in movie theater in
this area. Friends and neighbors recall it being around since the late
1930's at its Club Blvd location in Durham. Though they have
temporarily shut down over the years for events such as remodeling (in
the 1950s), and due to damage incurred by hurricane Fran, the Starlight
is open annually from early spring until as late as the Christmas
holidays as weather permits. The Starlite is independently owned and
operated.
