Weft is a community radio station located in
east-central Illinois, about 120 miles due south of Chicago
We are a non-commercial/not-for-profit station operated by
volunteers, along with one half-time station manager, and a
part-time engineer. We have no one "format", we play all genre
of music, primarily in "speciality" show "blocks", but there
are large portions of our schedule that are not "blocked out"
and overnight slots are free-form.Each program host makes
his or her own decisions about what to play, but are required
to include a minimum of 25% new releases on every show. There
is no "rotation" so each cd that comes into the station has
an equal opportunity for play.We report weekly to CMJ and
post weekly playlists to several internet music news-groups
as well as sending same lists to several hundred labels via
   e-mail.
WEFT has a power output of 10,000 watts and broadcasts
within a 50-mile radius of Champaign-Urbana, home of the
University of Illinois. The population of the immediate area
is approximately 110,000 and the potential weekly listenership
   is 250,000.WEFT is on-air 24 hours, 7 days a week, year-round.
We are a member of the National Federation of Community
Broadcasters and report our playlists to CMJ and The Source.
