Grading
Great Decisions is a one-hour, pass/fail course at UNC. Your grade
is determined based on attendance and participation for the eight-week lecture
series.
Attendance
Your TA will check attendance at each lecture and recitation; do not be
late. You are permitted one absence from a lecture OR a recitation
section. After that one free absence, you must make up for your other absences in whatever manner your TA deems appropriate. If you notify your TA in advance,
arrangements may be made to attend another recitation, and avoid an absence. TWO OR MORE ABSENCES WILL RESULT IN AUTOMATIC FAILURE.
Tardiness
The lectures begin at 7:00 on Tuesdays
in Carroll Auditorium. At 7:05, the doors will be shut and attendance
will be finished. You will be absent if you arrive after 7:05.
You may, however, still attend the lecture so that you may participate in
the recitation section and avoid an absence there.
Assignments
Recitations are 50 minutes. Most recitations take place immediately
following the Tuesday night lectures, though some will be offered later
in the week. In addition to attending, you must participate and
have done the work assigned by your TA. Each week, you will have a
short assignment from your TA as well as an article in the Great Decisions
book to read. These prepare you for the lecture and for discussion.
