A long time coming and still sadly incomplete! There are, at present, only about 3200 tapes listed here in both cassette and the more elusive 8 track formats. I am sure that this represents less than 25% of those released, in a format that is now almost obsolete. Until the CD burner became ubiquitous, audiocassettes were the most affordable and common means for musicians to spread their message to interested listeners. These were marketed from the side of the stage, from tables or RVs at festivals and camp meetings, at tourist and truck stops, and through the classified sections of fan magazines like Bluegrass Unlimited and local bluegrass association newsletters. Because audiocassettes have always taken a back seat to the principal commercial media of the day (LPs and now CDs), they continue to present challenges in documentation.
