Althea (American Motor Boat, 1907).
Served as USS Althea (SP-218) in 1917-1920

Althea, a 60-foot motor pleasure boat, was built at Steinway, Long Island, New York in 1907. By May 1917, when she was taken over by the Navy and placed in commission as USS Althea (SP-218), she was based on the Great Lakes. Formally purchased a month after commissioning, the boat was employed on section patrol and training duties at Detroit, Michigan, for the rest of World War I and for several months after the November 1918 Armistice. Stricken from the Navy list and laid up in August 1919, Althea was awaiting sale when she was sunk by ice in March 1920. She was sold "in sunken condition" in May of that year.

This page features the only view we have concerning the motor boat Althea, which was USS Althea (SP-218) in 1917-1920.
