Sulfur and, I believe, Petroleum oils are both allowed under Organic
growing methods. Part of the reason for increased oil usage is that
farmers are looking to avoid applications of miticides by using
dormant oils or summer oils for mite control. I am surprised you
regard this as a bad thing.
Quite frankly, I believe that Sulfur has a great impact on the
environment despite the fact that its use is permissible under organic
growing methods. I would suspect that small amounts of effective
fungicides would have much less effect on the environment than the
huge quantities of sulfur necessary to prevent fungal infections.
