I'm no expert at buckwheat - grown it once - but it threshes fairly
easy. Slow the cylinder and open the concave. Say, 7-800 rpm and
1 inch to start.
There's a lot of interaction between sieve and fan. If you have seed
out the back and chaff in the grain, try opening both sieve and wind.
Cracking may be due to too high cylinder rpm, tight concave clearance,
or too much rethreshing. Try opening the bottom sieve all the way.

cracking/peeling - slow cylinder, open concave
unthreshed seed - speed up cylinder, close concave
chaff in grain - increase wind
seed out the back - open sieves, decrease wind
heads/whitecaps in grain - close bottom sieve
These are general rules. Your mileage may vary.

Perfection may be an unattainable goal, but it should still be a goal.
