This is very altruistic of you :-)
Have you seen or heard of any experiments that have assessed even the
short term effects of GE foods on HUMAN BEINGS?
I have asked several times in the various groups around here. Everyone
falls silent when I do.
Think about the logic(?) being applied:
1) with the best scientific instruments and skills available Monsanto
is unable to detect any significant difference between the Roundup
Ready soybean and the regular variety
2) therefore it is just as good as the regular variety
3) therefore Monsanto does not need to perform short or long term
experiments on human beings to validate that it has no ill effects on
human life.
The Natural Law Party (of which I am a supporter) has taken the
position that there is no scientific evidence that these genetically
engineered foodstuffs are safe for consumption by humans.
If anyone has references to short or long term in vivo studies showing
data and conclusions about the effects of these GE foodstuffs on
HUMANS I would be pleased to see them.
This does not mean I wish to see a list of which agencies have
"approved" them. Agencies are not refereed science.
The key point about this is that NO ONE has performed long or even
short term scientific studies on human beings. Plenty of studies saying
the products are the same as the natural ones. But none where groups of
healthy, not-so-healthy, young, babies, elderly, disabled or very sick
people have been fed these things and the results evaluated.
Is that safe? prudent? Not at all.
Is it ethical? Not at all.
Is it legal? probably.
