My notes and some pictures from the recent Planning Meeting. There were in excess of 20 persons at the meeting! This level of interest in the website was quite heartening.
After a brief review of the site, several new ideas were proposed:
- Redesign! The site has been unchanged in look and feel since its debut. Several graphic designers expressed interest, and Steve Steele had some preliminary sketches for a Superhero-themed design. We collectively felt this was both fun and interesting, and will be pursuing it as an initial redesign. The idea of quarterly redesigns was also proposed, as was the concept of user-selectable look and feel.
- Site Credits Since there will be many people working on the site in the future, a 'site credits' page will need to be developed.
- FAQ The InterNetWorkers have enough of a history that a FAQ might be in order, as a place to send people when they first sign up.
- Text-only view To ensure that future designs are still viewable on all platforms, a text-only view would be helpful.
- Volunteerism A listing of local charitable groups looking for help, or even a Craigslist type of service exchange.
- Training Classes Several people expressed an interest in learning more about HTML / PHP / MySQL. Joe K will be organizing training classes, using the InterNetWorkers website as a development model. They were also referred to the code writeups on this site as a starter.
- JobBoard / Resume Center The possibility of generating revenue from regional employers has come up, since the debut of the JobBoard. A planning committee led by Michael Thomas will further investigate what the InterNetWorkers would need to do to become a 'real' non-profit group, what the benefits and drawbacks would be, and what types of application development would need to occur.
If you recall any other issues/items, please feel free to send a reminder to Joe K~
