Shah ------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. John Cort (jc335@columbia.edu) - brief bio-data Dr. Johnn Cort is assistant professor in the Department of Religion at Denison University. During the 1994-95 academic year, he was Visiting Assistant Professor of Jainism and Nonviolence at Columbia University. Dr. Cort has a Ph.D. in the Study of Religion from Harvard University, and both a B.A. and an M.A. in South Asian Studies from the University of Wisconsin. He has been studying the Jains for over twenty years, starting with fieldwork as an undergraduate in Banaras on the University of Wisconsin College Year in India Program. He has also lived in Gujarat, where he conducted fieldwork on Jain rituals and beliefs. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. John E.
