About F.O.A.R.

The font for the banner is Dustbowl Clementine by Ben Sandstrom, available from Chank's free fonts.

This web site is hosted by Ibiblio, formerly known as sunSITE and metaLab.

The image entitled "Six women in bathing costumes" on the foar.net home page is from the University of Southern California Digital Archive. The ID number is CHS-1035, and the photograph was taken around 1910. It is part of the California Historical Society collection. The image is used courtesy of the University of Southern California, on behalf of the USC Specialized Libraries and Archival Collections.

The menu drop down list (the blue bar above) and the expandable menu used in the research and portal sections are by Dave at www.gazingus.org. I discovered Dave's DHTML menus via ScottAndrew.com.

The blog/weblog/journal is a personal publishing software tool written in Perl called Movable Type. It was created and is maintained by Benjamin Trott and Mena G. Trott. MT is free to download and use, but donations are welcome. The blog pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

I coded the web pages, other than the blog, using Notepad and vi. :-) I admit to being Old Skool and a glutton for punishment. If I ever find an HTML editor that I like, I'll use it, but that has not yet happened in 7 years of coding. The non-blog web pages - i.e., the index, research, portal, about, and faq pages - validate as XHTML 1.0 strict. The CSS also validates.

About Me

Jewel Ward, May 2002, Auckland, New Zealand My name is Jewel Ward and I live in Los Angeles, CA, USA. This is my personal web site, although it does mix both work and play. I am a "Digital Resources Librarian" at the University of Southern California, which is a fancy way of saying that I am the Program Manager for the USC Digital Archive. My Curriculum Vitae is available online, and my research interests have a directory of their own.

I have an eclectic set of interests which encompass everything from IT culture to information policy to electronic music to the latest Barbie doll poll to cooking and decorating...and back again.

One of my greatest interests is travel, and I have lived in several US states and Pacific Rim nations. Although I now live in California, I spent most of my life in North Carolina and consider it my home state. I lived in Texas, Arizona, Florida, and New Mexico, as well. I lived in the Philippines, New Zealand, and Japan for a combined total of 7 years. I am a dual national with both US and New Zealand citizenship. Eventually, I'd like to do a RTW trip for about 9 months to 1 year.

More information about me is available in the FAQ. Please email me with any questions or comments.
