Background: this is a modern composition by guitarist Mark Kelly of the band Altan. It first appeared on the band's album Harvest Storm released in 1992. The meter of this tune is 9/8 which makes it a "slip jig" in Irish parlance. Like most traditional-style Irish tunes intended as "functional" music to propel specific types of dance forms, the slip jig is associated with a form of folk dance featuring hopping, skipping, and sliding motions traditionally danced only by women.
