Guilford, the younger son at Chez Lafrombu, was born sometime in the Spring a few years ago. He got his name "Guilford" from a building where his original human (or inhuman, in this case) family abandoned him when he was a kitten. The "Redford" part of his name, as you can probably guess, comes from his close resemblance to screen legend and fellow outdoorsman Robert Redford. "O'Malley" is due to his further resemblance to one of Lafrombu's favorite animated characters, "O'Malley the Alley Cat" in Disney's movie "Aristocats". And finally, "Harrison" comes from the time when he turned over a bottle of Woolite and got a big glob of it in his hair, which made it stand up on end and look VERY "Harrison Ford". Downright sexy!
Guilford, or "Gillie" as he is known most of the time (except when he's in trouble), is one of the most tender-hearted cats I have ever encountered. He was such a doting uncle to his nieces when they were babies. He would always start wrestling matches with them and then let them win. Even now, he will let everyone else in the house eat first - even though he is the strongest. Like his namesake O'Malley the Alley cat, Gillie loves New Orleans music - I kid you not. Whenever it's on the radio he will sit and purr and smile as he listens.
Gillie is a special kind of cat known as a "feral cat", which means that he is not tame. For more information about feral cats, keep checking back to this site where I will be posting an article about feral cats in my column, "On a More Serious Note".
