The complete story of Princess Lucey, who joined Chez Lafrombu against her will -- pregnant, wild, and terrified -- is too long to tell and would probably make you cry. Dumped by inhuman people, along with her brother Guilford at a building for which she also is named, Lucey is the bravest person -- human or feline -- I know.
Despite the fact that she was betrayed by every other human she had trusted, for the sake of her babies, Lucey -- whom I had to trap and who delivered her babies in a cage -- took a chance on trusting me, and worked very hard to overcome her fear of people. She is still skittish, but she improves every day. She is a living denial of our society's common rationalization that feral cats cannot be domesticated.
Lucey is kind-hearted and affectionate, and a great mom to her 2 daughters Peep and Everest. She keeps their ears VERY clean -- much to Everest's dismay. She loves watching movies and watching unusual happenings on our street -- especially this dog who wears sweaters in the winter-time, and these kids who have wheels on their feet. It is so funny to watch her scrunch up her nose when she sees these things and look at me like "Mom, what's up with that?"
Cats in the wild do not meow -- this is something they learn in order to communicate with humans. There are few things more moving than having a wild animal, who wanted to kill you weeks earlier, take the chance on trusting you and utter its first squeaky meow -- as an adult. If any of you wants to experience first-hand the innocence and wonder that we often say no longer exists in our world, I highly recommend adopting a feral cat.
