Rainbow, closest friend and adviser to all who reside at Chez Lafrombu -- including Lafrombu herself -- came into the world sometime in the Spring, 21 weeks before he and I were brought together at the Animal Shelter in August of that year. This scrawny cat -- who had 3 kinds of worms and advanced leukemia -- was given 6 months to live when he adopted me 15 years ago. Now he weighs 16 pounds and is described as "the prettiest cat I have ever seen" by many who meet him, even vets. I always believed that Rainbow would overcome his obstacles and be an inspiration to a lot of people -- this was especially true when I did the holiday window that is pictured on this webpage. We lived in a tough neighborhood at the time, and yet, people in the neighborhood came from all around at night during the holidays and would stand in groups below our window and yell "Rainbow!" and -- like the gentleman he is, Rainbow would dutifully jump up into the window and wish them all a happy holiday.
Rainbow is an extremely intelligent, loyal friend. Most who know him, say he is more like a dog than a cat. He comes when called, he eats most people food (loves salads, green beans, steamed broccoli), and takes an interest in what people are doing -- whether it is cooking, decorating, fixing something, etc.. He enjoys mentoring his little sisters, brother, and nieces. When the little ones were babies, he would walk through the room and their eyes would widen with this expression of "Wow, he is SO COOL." He often accompanied Lafrombu on business trips on her former job, only rousing himself from sleep in the rental car when we were passed on the highway by a vehicle of the exact make and model of his mommy's car -- no kidding, this boy is sharp.
Rainbow got his name from the Bible story of Noah's Ark. As you may recall, the rainbow was God's promise to Noah that it would never rain that hard, or be that bad, again. Every time we watch it rain together, I say to him: "it doesn't matter if it rains...because I have a Rainbow." and he just purrs and purrs.
