THE ASIA GARDEN AT PHILLIPS

The Asia Garden at Phillips Middle School is nearly finished. Moving the boulders, soil, and mulch was accomplished swiftly, with the expertise and equipment donated by Gary Colpitts from Colpitts Grading Company.

Thanks to the active involvement of Linda Coleman, PTA member and garden volunteer and Phillips students the garden has entered the fine tuning stages and we will be finished with our project on June 30, 2000.

BELOW IS THE FINISHED PRODUCT

The Asia Garden is in the process of establishing its identity and deep roots in the Phillips Middle School soil. Initially, we were going to have only one bench, but student demand for sitting space prompted the addition of two more stone benches. The views in the two upper photographs show the garden in its sunny and cloudy form. The view below shows the wooden bridge that unites two sides, like the Collaborative TeachAsia Project uniting UNC-CH and Phillips. A small garden lantern acts as a beacon, as education should for all of us, and points the way to the bridge.
