Save a Skydiver
Question 1
In this exercise you will use the Java applet of the skydiver you used
previously.
Use your left mouse button to draw the skydiver's velocity and
acceleration in terms of distance in free-fall. After you have drawn
the curve, compare your plots with the ones drawn in the applet.
Now press the start button on the applet and watch
the skydiver fall and his/her parachute deploy.
Question 2
What is the terminal velocity of a skydiver with a
parachute?
Assume kf = 28.8 Ns2/m2 for a
parachute 24 feet in a diameter and m = 80 kg for the
skydiver-parachute combination.
Question 3
How do increases in k and m affect
the velocity and acceleration of the skydiver? The answer is a
qualitative one for this question.
Question 4
Plot vf(y) and af(y)
for the skydiver with a parachute. Assume m = 80 kg. Compare
the plots with those for the skydiver without a parachute (Falling in
a Fluid - Practice - Question 5).
