[nafex] Black Walnut&RU

We have a similar problem with vine maples ... seed everywhere and if you leave
them a year or two, they are hard to get out... long tap root.

First choice would be to pull when first germinated.

Second choice would be glyphosate (Roundup), but not concentrated! Preferably
about 2-3%. Seedling must be actively growing for RU to work. Squirt with Ru
and come back in about a month and squirt again. Spring would be time when
activly growing, but blackberries/ bamboo/other persistent weeds are often treated
in the Fall so the RU is sent to the roots with other nutrients for winter
storage. When spring comes, the RU is sent out from roots and interferes with the
chlorophyll production by the new leaves and seedling should die.

I teach 'Weeds' to Master Gardeners and I always tell them that if they really
want to get rid of a particular weed, start nurturing it: care for it, fertilize
it, water it, and sure enough it will die!

Cheers,

Derry
