[nafex] Hmm. Kousa fruits. Not bad...
While my youngest son was at flag football practice Tuesday afternoon, I
took a turn around the grounds of the Methodist Church where the wife of a
coworker has been coordinating landscape plantings. Came across a couple
of kousa dogwoods(C.kousa), sporting large(1" diameter) ripe, red
fruits. I'd seen photos of them, but this was the first time I'd seen one
'up close and personal'. They were larger than I'd anticipated.
Popped one in my mouth and savored the tasty pulp. The exterior was not
especially tasty, and kind of gritty. After chewing up a couple, I decided
they were much better if I just plucked the stem off and more or less
sucked the pulp out. Not quite as tasty as a good pawpaw or persimmon, but
not too bad.
Even my wife liked 'em. They got a better reception than did the
corneliancherry dogwood(C.mas) fruits.
