It's been a long time since my college days, but if I remember
correctly, 2,4-D degrades pretty rapidly in the environment - pretty well
played out after about 21 days - UV rays degrade it pretty rapidly.
Its 'badder big brother', 2,4,5-T(Agent Orange), on the other hand,
persists for quite a while. I've got a small 16 oz can of 2,4,5-T that I
found in the basement when we moved my mother-in-law out of her home
several years back. I'm saving it for use as a stump treatment in the
event that any Ailanthus, wisteria, or sweetgums ever show up here on the
place - though I'll probably use Pathway(Tordon)RTU first.

I'm not an immunologist by training, so can't comment on all the nuances of
allergy development. There may be some significant differences in the
composition of the peanut allergen and urushiol.
