Re: [NAFEX] tree tags

This may not be what you are looking for, but I finally have found a cheap
permanent system I like. I go to the local printer and buy the big
usedaluminum printing sheets for a buck. I cut them up with scissors or our
old paper cutter . I cut them big, 1 1/4" x 8" so I can read my printing
in the field without resorting to reading glasses.....one of my complaints
with the small, but pretty, commercial trags.

To write on (indent) the strips I take a clip board and put a couple of
pieces of cereal box cardboard down first - then clip an aluminum strip
and write big with an old ballpoint pen. The cardboard provides the needed
cushion for indenting, the ink provides lubrication.

To attach wire I have either punched a hole one at a time with a sharp nail,
or drilled out 25 at a time by sandwiching the strips between two pieces
of wood. I fold over the strip on the hole end to strengthen it. This
particular type of aluminum is tough. Mn. Del
