[compost_tea] Questions about hoses

I've recently been shopping for new hoses and have been stunned to
discover disclaimers on many of them, to the effect:

"Made from recycled materials. Do not use for drinking water."

and scarier:

"This hose contains a substance known to the state of California to
cause cancer. Do not use for drinking water."

Other hoses tout an anti-microbial substance in the lining of the
hose to prevent the build-up of bacteria, algae and fungi.

Does anyone know what substance the state of CA knows about that is
used in the manufacture of these hoses?

And what about the effects of water coming through anti-microbial
hoses on CT? Or on the beneficial organisms in the soil? Or animals
whose drinking troughs are filled from any of these hoses? Or
vegetables watered with them?

And what about those of us who've been known to drink from the hose
while watering the garden? Or the kids who run through sprinklers and
play in backyard pools?

How serious an issue is this?

irene, outside of eatonville wa where running through a sprinkler
sounds like a pretty good idea just now...
