[compost_tea] compost tea brewing innovations
The compost tea innovations have tremendously helped and impacted sustainab=
le agriculture. We acknowledge greatly the works of Elaine Ingham of Soilf=
oodweb.
In the Philippines, it has made great impacts among organic farmers increas=
ing yields and controlling pests and diseases. Certain innovations and/or =
variations we have done with the compost tea technology:1. Aside from the =
classical optional addition of seaweed extract, we have added different fer=
mented extracts to improve the compost tea potency. For example, as part o=
f the brew, we have added seaweed-fish amino acid extract to improve furthe=
r its growth promoting effects. Seaweeds with its natural growth promoting=
substances like gibberrelin, auxin and cytokinin is also added with natura=
l nitrogen derived from fish extracts.2. We have likewise have added speci=
fically BSP (banana-squash-papaya) fermented extract to the brew when we wa=
nted to improve its flowering and fruiting effects. BSP is high on natural=
potassium that promotes flowering and fruiting.3. TheGil other thing we h=
ave also done is the addition of BIM (Beneficial Indigenous Microorganisms)=
to the brew. Let us understand that the microorganisms we "extract" from =
the compost we use (vermicompost is more popularly used here) is quite "lim=
ited" as compared to the BIM we culture, say from an aged forest. Consequen=
tly, addition of BIM increases a more diversified and powerful microbial ec=
ologies.4. You may refer to my booklet on Indigenous Micxroorganisms: Gro=
w Your Own for the different microbial cultures and bionutrients that can b=
e added to our compost tea brewing.
