Cam;
Yes. I agree with everything you say. One is often prepared to believe the
rather extravagant claims of salespeople, especially if a little bit of
science is added to make it more acceptable. It beats me how they get these
products registered, maybe the registrar of agricultural chemicals is also
taken in by the salesmanship.
Now about sprayers. I long ago discarded the complicated formulas for
calibrating sprayers. In my opinion there is only one way to do it:
If your sprayer nozzles are 500mm apart, then over 100m each nozzle
effectively covers 50m square. (.5x100 square metres) Now 50m square is
1/200 of a hectare (50/10 000=1/200). So, if you time your rig over 100m,
and take the pressure or pto rpm, then each nozzle will give 200 times its
delivery at that pressure or pto rpm and time for a hectare. So, if your rig
runs for 32 seconds over 100m at 3 bar, then you can take your nozzle
delivery for that time and pressure and multiply it by 200 to get the
delivery per hectare.

Interesting comments about TM21- I have used it fairly widely- along with
LCE and ACT, and I agree that it would be nice if they would be a little
less secretive about what is in it, however it does, in my opinion, work. I
have also used many other things like molasses, fulvic and Humic as well as
Tuna at higher rates. BEST does have some fairly good data available about
the efficacy of their product, not biological assays but soil temperature
comparisons as well as yield mapping in broadacre wheat.
I agree that there are many "products" that one can spend ones money on and
that some are more effective than others. Really what everyone needs is to
be able to know the true effects of everything they apply to their
systems(both good and bad)to enable them to be effective soil and land
managers. It is a bit like being given a formula to calibrate your sprayer
without knowing how to work it out from first principles.

market a product called TM21. I don't think they use that name in Canada.

you would expect from the very good results we would expect from greatly
improved soil biology.
