You need to calibrate your equipment to figure this out. There's no
standard ratio. You have to see how long it takes to cover a particular
area with the spray equipment you have. This procedure is the same for
equipment you walk with and equipment you drive.

You say you want to apply 5 gallons of AACT over 1 acre. Let's assume
your sprayer will spray a 4' swath and sprays out 1 gallon per minute.
To keep the example simple, let's assume your acre is only 4' wide, but
11,000' long. (That's a little more than an acre.) So, if you're using a
backpack sprayer, you would have to walk the 11,000x4' acre one time.
11,000 feet is just over two miles. Let's assume it's flat and smooth
and you can walk the 2 miles in 15 minutes. At 1 gallon/minute from your
sprayer, you would need a total of 15 gallons of AACT+water so you would
add 10 gallons of water to your 5 gallons of AACT to get it applied
evenly over your 1 acre.

You can change the numeric values to whatever you find is true in your
case. In the example above, if you found it takes 30 minutes to walk the
acre, at 1 gallon/minute, you need to add 25 gallons of water to your 5
gallons of AACT to have it distributed evenly over the acre. I doubt
your acre is 11,000'x4', but the area your covering is the same. If you
had a tractor with a boom sprayer that put out 10 gallons/minute over a
10' swath, you adjust the calculations. Just start off in a small test
area to get your travel speed, gallons/minute and the coverage swath,
then do the math. Teacher said you'd use your math one day.
